You can satisfy shopping munchies just above Ben and Jerry's with run-of-the-mill chain store pizza that aspires toward the creative and upscale. Pizzas range from basic cheese ($2) to thick Sicilian slices loaded with everything from pesto chicken and goat cheese to beef taco and nacho ($2.75+). While pre-fab slices often taste like they're reheated, Crazy Dough also encourages you to create your own “insane pizza” (toppings $1 each) or bring home a fresh pie ($11-17).

] Although they're named after a Korean dynasty, Shilla's cuisine isn't quite fit for a king. While the convenient location in the basement of the Staples building may outweigh its veritable lack of atmosphere, it doesn't make up for the mediocre sushi—stick to their Korean specialties to get your money's worth. Shilla's huge menu gives you lots of choices but few standouts: sample one of the unusual appetizers ($5-12) before starting in on any one of their more traditional main courses. Vegetarian entrees are a plenty, with offerings such as tofu bibim-bap ($12) and vegetable chapchae ($11). “Big bowl specials,” hot pot dinners, meat entrees, noodle dishes, seafood dinners, and sushi complete the menu (entrees $11-20, sushi $3-6 per 2-piece order).

The Wagamama concept is modeled on the Ramen shops popular in Japan for over 200 years. Ramen are chinese-style thread noodles, served in soups with delicious toppings or griddle-cooked (teppan-fried). Wagamama has also a variety of side dishes including meat and vegetable dumplings, skewered chicken, deep-fried prawns and raw salads. You can enjoy a meal and drink for under $10 per head. Another branch is in Fanueil Hall.

Imagine Spice, add pictures to the menu, and you've got 9 Tastes. Nearly identical in choice, price, and quality to big sister Spice, 9 Tastes serves the Thai restaurant's extensive array of both standard and creative meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Nibble on beef satay or Khao Tang Na Tang (puffed rice cake crackers with shrimp and chicken dip, $6) before diving into your drunken noodles ($10) or mango curry ($12). Spice your meal how you see fit; however, don't miss regional options like the Kha Pla ($13), a “new adventure from Northeastern Thailand” or the conventionally delicious Pad Thai ($7).
Delivery in limited area 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm everyday. $2.00 charge for delivery. Minimum order $10.00.

Cafe of India is precisely what a cosmopolitan restaurant in firm contact with its origins should be: self-assured enough to serve both the basics and new and improved versions. While the restaurant is softly-lit and welcoming, the food is what you should come here for. Cafe of India has tandoori ovens and knows how to use them well: the lamb and chicken appetizers are moist, aromatic and perfectly-cooked ($6-8). Main dishes range $13-20, and are delicately spiced. Flavors are carefully blended and balanced, and the chefs will moderate spice levels to your request. The seafoods are the real prize. The sauce-based cooking allows seafood to be cooked precisely to the point of doneness, preserving its essential flavor and tenderness. Also be sure to try the peshawary naan, a flatbread stuffed with almonds and raisins ($6). For a more affordable stab at this fine restaurant, stop by for their daily lunch buffet ($10-14).

Though Cambridge, 1 is in the heart of the Square, it's somehow off the Harvard-student radar. Instead of hitting Border Café yet again, show off your savvy and try this classy dinner-and-drinks spot. The building was once a fire station (hence the name), but these days the only fires are in the kitchen, underneath Cambridge, 1's famous grilled thin-crust pizzas. Toppings include fontina, grilled chicken, manchego, cilantro oil, baby arugula, and even Maine lobster. Sadly, Cambridge, 1 holds only a beer and wine license, so boozin' is pretty basic. Pizzas: half $6-13; whole $11-15. Salads $5-9.

Spice has surpassed the 5-year mark and become one of the more popular choices in the Square. Depending on how you feel about rubbing elbows (literally) with Harvard students and professors, the atmosphere could be described as cozy or cramped. Sample Thai classics such as chicken or beef satay ($6), spring rolls ($5.50), and, of course, pad thai ($8). If it's spice that you came for, try the green, red, or mango curries ($12); but if you're looking for sugar, you'll enjoy desserts like coconut, ginger, or green tea ice cream ($3). The lunch menu features most of the same items as the dinner menu but in smaller portions and lower prices. Entrees $8-16.
